Vishing – On the rise

scamalertEver get a phone call from some unknown number with them telling you you have been a victim of some crime and that your bank account is under siege, they ask for your personal information and hang up. You’ve just been vished or phished with respect to it’s web counterpart. Voice calls of such nature should be reported to the proper authorities who may have the ability to block these numbers to prevent such crimes from being carried on. Vishing accounts for billions of dollars in fraudulent losses for both businesses and people who have fallen victim to such criminal activities.
Even getting a call with a seemingly legitimate source is unreliable for they can take the form of legitimate numbers by masking their true numbers through some method that obscures the true number of the calling party. These criminals use software scanners that scans the phone system for available numbers they can use, either confirmed to be discontinued or unused. They also have the ability to use a different number each and every time due to the huge amount of numbers they many have at their disposal. Never give out any financial or personal information over the phone till you are sure you are talking to the right people. Do not answer calls from unknown people and delete any text messages that have the same purpose to keep you safe from such attacks.
