Organic LED Displays – Coming to a Cellphone Near You

samsungomniaMost phone companies are clamoring to adopt the new and less power hungry OLED display technology that has been showcased by Sony and LG, first used on their television sets. The technology offers cheaper production costs as well as the added benefit of longer battery life for Active Matrix Organic LED screens consume a fraction of the electricity or battery power their traditional counterparts consumed because they needed no back lighting. OLED’s produced their own light allowing the exclusion of the power hungry back lighting system that is standard on most LCD displays. One of the earliest adopters of the technology is Samsung, with their Omnia and Impression line, both of which offer AMOLEDS for their display screens.
They are still quite pricey but they are greener than traditional displays and with the less power consumption, it all translates to longer battery life meaning you get to use it a bit longer than other phones on the market today. OLED’s are the technology to adopt for the normal pitfall of mobile phones are their short battery lives due to illumination which needs a lot of power or you may not be able to read the display at all. More of these new generation phones are sure to be coming in the next few years as they find better ways and integrate more features in so small a package as a mobile phone.
