Most phone companies are clamoring to adopt the new and less power hungry OLED display technology that has been showcased by Sony and LG, first used on their television sets. The technology offers cheaper production costs as well as the added benefit of longer battery life for Active Matrix Organic LED screens consume a fraction of the electricity or battery power their traditional counterparts consumed because they needed no back lighting. OLED’s produced their own light allowing the exclusion of the power hungry back lighting system that is standard on most LCD displays. One of the earliest adopters of the technology is Samsung, with their Omnia and Impression line, both of which offer AMOLEDS for their display screens. Read the rest of this entry »

Nokia, one of the world’s biggest cellular phone maker is adopting a pilot project that aims to get hold of their customer’s old phones and also get service through self-running kiosks as they strive to get people to recycle their old mobiles. This move helps to reduce the amount of wasted devices that simply get tossed into the trash bin, polluting the environment as they leach out their many chemical components into the earth when they get to the landfill. Mobile phones are some of the most prolific technological products around and some folks even have more than one in their bags or pockets. Read the rest of this entry »

Nokia N97

Nokia seems to be getting a new mobile phone almost every week. This week though, they might have just hit the big time with the Nokia N97:
So, what exactly do you get with the Nokia N97? The large touchscreen display is an obvious place to start - the 640 x 360 pixel display is the same resolution as the 5800, but the N97’s panel is larger at 3.5″. As with the 5800, this is a touch-sensitive widescreen unit, Nokia call this resolution “nHD” which we guess is “near HD”. It’s almost the same as the VGA resolution that we have seen in some rival devices, but the E90 manages a 4″ 800 x 352 non-touch screen, and the N810 is 800 x 400 pixels and 4.1″. Crucially though, the N97’s display does look to be better than the arch-rival Apple iPhone 3G. The N97 also lacks the TV tuner from the N96, and there’s no mention of an FM radio either.

It is just only now that the United States have come to conclude that texting while driving is very dangerous and is now supporting its banning. One of its supporters is a group of about 240,000 physicians in the US. They voted to support the legislation for its banning. This will enable police to easily pull over errant drivers who continually disregard the ban. They said that texting while driving takes away the attention of the driver from the road. This could eventually lead to accidents. The law aims to keep the road safe for people. They have the right not to worry about drivers who are more focused on texting than driving. A recent accident in California killed at least 12 people and injuring 135 more was said to have been caused by texting while driving.

Press the following on your mobile *#06# and the IMEI code or International Mobile Equipment Identity number will appear on your mobile phone lcd screen.
What you do is, check the 7th and 8th numbers:

- If the Seventh & Eighth digits are 08 or 80 - Made in Germany, good quality.

The 5800 XpressMusic is a touch-screen cell phone and it is Nokia’s first finger-touch phone. It is called the “Tube” and it is the first phone ever to use the latest version of S60 Smartphone platform, designed to touch-screen phones, and it is called as the “S60 Touch”. The 5800 has a plastic below and above the touch screen, and there are also bumpers on the edges to protect the screen. But because of that, it became less attractive and those bumpers absorb dirt, so it became less presentable. The 5800 uses resistive touch screen so that it permits the use of stylus pen. It permits hand writing recognition. Asian markets are crucial at this kind of feature. As for the software, 5800 offers several options to create a message: QWERTY, numeric (T9), handwriting, and a special mini-QWERTY designed to be used with the stylus.
